Self Concious

When I look in the mirror, I never like the reflection of my own in there. I am basically invited to go to the swimming pool for the day with my friends. I would love to and really want enjoy swimming with them, too, but am also self-conscious about taking off my T-Shirt. I am worried that the other at the swimming pool will see on what I looked myself in the mirror. So, I had not gone to the pool than 2 years because I am so self conscious about my appearance.

Many people may think of guys, like me as being carefree when it comes to our appearance. But the reality is that a lot of guys spend plenty of time in front the mirror. That is true for me. I am worried about how I look and what the body image I have. I do not feel comfortable in my body and appearance. It allows me to be unconfident when I have to stand among a crowd of people.

This is a personal’s opinions, thought and feeling about what I think about the physical. It also cause to the feeling of having a self-image. So, how I feel about my body can affect to how I feel about myself. I sometimes feel compare myself to the other to why I cannot be good looking as the other guys are. I know that this is not good to look down myself and it can make me down. However, this is hard to change on what I have believed to my self image.

I have been several time to bounce up myself in changing my body and also given up for many times. Unlike the others, I am less likely to talk with friends and family about my body and/or how I can develop myself to think positive toward the self-image I have.

What should I do? Weather I should not trash myself and change my thought toward a self-image.

Believe it or not???

Nowadays, there are advertising everywhere we pass by even if we stop doing anything, the advertisements come to us. We can’t deny that advertising is playing an important role of our daily life. The great inspiration of buying products usually comes from advertisements.

Many advertisements are framing us by using different kinds of strategies. For example, this advertisement is about the deodorant. The message is this deodorant will make the armpits become white and more guys will be interested in you.

This advertisement uses the well-known Thai movie star as a presenter. She can attract people to pay more attention in this advertisement. This reframes us that if women use this deodorant, they will look like this super star; beautiful, attractive, confident and perfect.

Moreover, there are some strong words in the advertisement that reframe our idea; beautiful, attractive, confident and perfect. This reframes us to believe that if women want to be attractive, they should use this deodorant because guys like women whose armpits are white. In fact, it’s not a point that armpits can makes guys make a decision to like or love women.

There’s also a sentence which does not make sense. It’s “…Protect your armpits from the ultraviolet rays..” because no one raise hands up all the time. How the ultraviolet rays can effect to their armpits.

Furthermore, the way women look attractive in this advertisement is to dress improperly. If women dress properly, men cannot see the armpits. But in real life, not everyone can see the other’s armpits easily. If someone tries to show armpits in the public, that means he or she is too self confident or a bit crazy. This very contradicts with the reality.

However, advertising is just a marketing promotion, not everything we can use in real life. So, we should think more deeply before we believe the message from the advertisements.

Watzlawick, Weakland and Fisch (1974) describe the 'gentle art of reframing' thus:
“To reframe, then, means to change the conceptual and/or emotional setting or viewpoint in relation to which a situation is experienced and to place it in another frame which fits the 'facts' of the same concrete situation equally well or even better, and thereby changing its entire meaning.”

why am I so fat?

This topic is not to support me and my weight obsession like the other pro ana website. I used to visit this kind of blog year ago. Now to be skinny like a stick is not really interesting to me. However I feel I am fat and not attractive yet. Why?

Pro ana website is kind like communities on the website and also having the mistress who is so wise in how to lose weight, she has so many tricks to throw up after eating and there are may quotes to remind not to eat. There are many courses you can choose to suit your lifestyle, and I am once fanatic to this website.

I used to fast for 2 days according to the suggestions and it is terribly tortured, it's dizzy and I couldn't control my shaking. It's shaking coz it's starving and so hungry.

So what I wanna talk are the pro ana website and its effect and why skinny we should be? I want to be thin and no one out there want to be that skinny like I want. I feel so alone talking about using diet pills in secret. My mom is against it. How should I do to lose more 5 kgs I am so sure I will be happy to achieve this.

Then I start to find someone who can give me solutions to be thin. It is the internet who can tell you even how to make a bomb. I subscribe one community and swear to be loyal and not blame or harm other members. These members are so sensitive when there is other people comment differently on their ideas about how to get thin. They will condemn those who see poles apart. I think this group of people is unstable and easily-annoyed. It’s more like leisurely skinny talk and tips I could ignore. So I leave this community, not wanting to debate with anybody’s idea. I would rather find my own way to be thin.

Then alone again, how can I be thin, feeling like my body is almost tearing apart, I really hate myself. But I have to eat in front of my mom. Is it just an excuse for eating? I should continue to starve myself and don’t care anyone, right?

Why I feel so fat and jeans getting tighter on me. My legs are swollen and make me embarrassed each time I wear my favorite skinny jeans. I’m going to die if I cannot have another diet pills I think. I talk that I ‘m fat, coz I feel truly fat not to get the response like “oh, you are not fat.” I want to hear the solutions or just the root of my thought. Where the skinny comes from and how it dominates me like this?

ONLINE GAME - by Ngamjit T.

Online game is a kind of famous entertainment that causes a physical health, mental health and social problem. It is considered as a new trend among children. I think online game is not beneficial to children. The children without playing it will not get the problems to their physical and mental health which lead to the social problem.

The first is physical health problem, when children play game they need to be sit in front of the monitor for a long time. It will make their weak eyesight, neck ache, backache, stomachache, weakness, the heart beat and blood pressure getting higher. While they are playing game they feel stressed because they must focus to the monitor and find the way to win the game and get a higher score in a short time. How they could be healthy with spending most of their time to play game instead of playing sports which make them healthier.

The second is mental health problem. It will make them more aggressive and violent because of fighting with the enemies and facing the violence of the game which were repeated over and over. It is not practical to claim that being the winner of the game which is in the imagination world is the meaning of happiness. Playing game is not the only way to make them happy. They can get some exercise, traveling or doing some hobbies in their free time. It is impossible to be happy by playing game all the time.

The third & most important point is the gamer possibly avoid or escape from the society. It causes a lot of social problem. The children should pay attention to their study other than getting more online friends who just want to play game. The parents heard a lot about the game which put the children into a serious problem. In other word, game addiction caused depression personality which became lack of concentrate to their study and lead them only want to play game.

I realize that today the cyberspace is powerful knowledge for everyone. People accept that it is impossible to stop using computers. Most of the parents support their children to use computer for useful purposes. Online game is one of the entertainment channels for children. The parents have to watch out their behavior of playing online game. The government has to control and put some policies for online game shop; time limit, age of the gamer, game pattern. Online game is not beneficial for children. The parents should be awareness of its disadvantages to protect them from physical and mental health problem which undoubtfully effected to the society.

A young vender

How often I hang out at the night, a seldom I will see many kids walk along the famous night-spots in Chiang Mai.
Many kids are basically discovered in the trendy pubs along the Chiang Mai hub. It is seen that they come by holding a big basket which full of snacks and fruits or a bundle of roses to rise up some money for making their living. What they are deserved in life a childhood or education? They are not supposed to earn money especially in the night because they are being in a blossom of learning age. The children between 7 – 12 years old is appropriated to playing due to when children play, they learn, mixing with others children they absorb knowledge that will not only help them find work but also give them a vital grounding in how to behave and survive socially.

I think it is not the time for those children to stay there through the night. I see many children walk along the pubs asking people including me to buy some snack eaten with drinks, some come to sell a bundle of roses which is only 20 baht each flower. Meanwhile, the other children in the same ages are sleeping in a cozy bed, listening to a tale before bed time and snuggling of their parents.

I feel a little bit upset when I saw those children come to ask me for buying their goods. I am sometimes ashamed to the way I make a living. I spend 300-400 baht and waste my bed time to hang out in the night, while these children are spending their bedtime to make money.
I question that why they are allowed to be in the risking place. I feel sad to see children so young risking their future only for earning some money that they are probably unrealized what is the most important for their life.

I think families members, teachers and other concerned people must sit down together and work out a solution on how to decease the number of those young children.

The Unspoken Matter

said...

I’m so honored to post the first topic..but

Firstly, I would like say something about my friend above
Som-O is the one whom I can call her as friend with my whole heart….
Her heart is made of gold!!!

………………Let’s start with something I am so upset and hesitated to talk about…
It is a taboo issue which is about sex. Thais will feel awkward talking about it in public. They will say like, it was the too personal affair. I once see the picture in the temple, that picture showing the man caress the woman sexually. He touched her bosom with pleasant countenance and she is too. And it is painted on the wall of Ubosod, in such religious place. So it is strange to me that sexual pictures are painted in temple openly. But it is rarely to see this kind of pictures.

People will regarded one who talked about sex as vulgar, uneducated and seriously ill-mannered, etc. But honestly, I am one talking oftenly about this topic with friends as long as they dare to ask, I will dare to answer. And it was like “are we invading their personal territory?” or “Am I too open?”. Of course, my friend will have some ideas about myself which I cannot control them at all.

When things are made to become unspoken, it is silenced, what happen to that issue? People will try to learn it in secret, I am shocked when my boyfriend try to use the techniques of foreplay he sees from the AV movie. I am not insulting it, but I don’t like that technique. Rather than relaxing, it made me annoyed and refused to sleep with him. I think AV movies always shows the same techniques of foreplaying they think they mostly makes women pleasing, but I will say that it is nonsense to me.

I and my friends always shares about this experiences, I sometimes think it is profounding time to me to learn that many women are not satisfied with sex life. I see many male magazines suggesting man with sexual problems in very ridiculous ways to me. Sometimes men care about their sizes and their sexual positions. They are like jokes to me and what I used to believe that men are expert in sex is not true at all. This is because men never let women freely talk about their sexual feelings. My gal friends confessed to me that she pretended to cry or screaming like she was in orgasm to her bf but she was actually not. S o I think sex may be not really entertainment, it is just acting.

I think sex can be both fun and boring matter, it will not always be enjoyable like the male magazine suggestion. It may be happy today and disappointing tomorrow. Male is so falsely proud that they can make woman happy. What I want to say is HAHAHA.

Thus, can we sure that male magazine is the best guideline for our sex life. NO!!! Even in female magazine, they also describe sex as a drama movie. It’s like sentimental and spiritual matter. What a …….!!!! lie to me. Sex in female magazine is like the beautiful journey full of imaginative and sensual pleasure. Oh goshhh!! I think many women are trapped by this fairytale( like me for many years). And woman is expected to please man in sex as well.

Sex for me is the hygienic, trusting and chukling matter, the partner should be sure they both are not having sexual disease like STD, HIV, etc. Because it will not fun to get the gonorrhea or abnormal leucorrhea after we have sex. Then I can trust him that he will not force me to have unwillinged sex. I can request and refuse it if I want. That man must understand that where he should touch my body and where he shouldn’t. He must listen to me when I get the problems with my period and he is willingly solving my problems by seeing doctors or study from the health articles. He and me will choose together how to use contraceptive to prevent unwanted pregnancy. I and him can laugh when sex is not really fun and not feel really bad to each other. We can talk when the positions are not work and try another. I can have both the active and passive roles in sex. Oh sex is such complicated thing. Right????

Uniform, a problem of Thai students!

Sometimes in weekdays I go to the university, I see undergraduate students with uniforms. I want to go back to that moment. I want to wear a uniform again. I feel upset because when I was in undergraduate level, I didn't like to wear a uniform. At that time, I thoght that wear private clothes was better.

Should university students wear uniform? This is one of the unsolved problems in every university in Thailand. There are a lot of university students who wear private clothes to class. That means they don’t respect university’s rules. It decreases the whole image of universities. Even though there are many campaigns about wearing uniforms but they don’t succeed. They are not continued and strict enough. However, there are many good reasons why student should wear a uniform; it makes students be unitive, feel equal, and help cut down expenses.

Uniform is a symbol of unity. You should think how hard you can be university students. Not many people have a chance to study in a university. The uniform shows that who you are and you are in groups of well-educated people in society. Your parents work so hard to earn enough money to pay for tuition fees. Wearing a uniform also keeps students to be in order and self-discipline and also remind that they are students so their responsibility is to study.

Moreover, wearing a uniform makes students feel equal. Even if you are rich or poor, you wear same clothes, study in the same institute and also be friends. Some students who don’t have much money to spend on clothes, will feel inferior. They will feel uncomfortable and lack of confidence when getting in group among friends who are well-dressed with brand name clothes and expensive accessories. Sometimes, there will be a gap between friends who have different social status.

Besides, it can help cut down expenses. You don’t have to prepare and think a lot about clothes that you should wear in every morning. You don’t have to go shopping so often to buy some brand name or in trend clothes. Luxury clothes don’t help you to get good grades or improve you IQ. The price of uniform is not so expensive. It costs only 500 Baht per 1 set of a uniform but you can wear it for many years. Now, the economical situation is not very good. The cost of living seems to be higher and higher. As Thai citizens, we should follow the sustainable economy theory of The King. If you can’t earn money and still ask money from your parents, so you should be economical as much as you can.

I think university committee should issue new rules about wearing a uniform. The rules should be more strict and practical. For example, take 5 points off if students don’t wear uniforms to class or don’t allow them to wear private clothes in buildings. In addition, there should be a campaign about motivating students to wear uniforms. The campaign should be continued and practical, too. These solutions will work if everybody and every parts in universities coopertate strictly. So, it takes only 4 years of your life to wear a uniform. Time flows like water and 4 years are not long. So, be proud of your institutes and also yourselves!
